Dr. Gabrielle Vail joined InHerit in August of 2016. Her background is as a Maya archaeologist and epigrapher, and she has shared her passion for deciphering Maya hieroglyphic texts by developing and teaching workshops throughout the U.S. and Latin America over the past twenty years. One of these workshops (pictured above) was held in Tahcabo, Yucatán in July 2016, in conjunction with InHerit’s PACOY (Proyecto Arqueológico Colaborativo del Oriente de Yucatán) project.
Dr. Vail’s first task as Program Director is to oversee a grant awarded by the U.S. Department of the State’s Museums Connect program, which establishes a cultural exchange between high school students of Maya descent living in North Carolina and in Yucatán through a series of workshops and visits to archival collections at UNC-Chapel Hill and in Merida, Yucatán.
